Postfix+Courier-IMAP Login Problems

I am running Postfix and Courier-IMAP, both up and running I try to login with PC-Pine or SquirrelMail, I get user unkown. I have /Maildir/ created in the users dir's and the postfix config is set to use it. I have gone through tons of docs and tryed lots of solutions but nothing works.

Is the passwd file successfully mirrored from /etc/passwd to /var/spool/postfix/etc ?

If not, that could be the cause. I ended up linking the two together to avoid sync problems as I could never quite get them to sync probably.
