Angry SB16 Pro Sound not working in RH8

I have been running RH8 for some time now and have never been able to get sound to work (amongst a few other things but one at a time eh?).

I have a Creative Sounblaster 16 Pro card aboard that is recognised durng the boot process and according to lsmod has drivers installed (output below, along with lspci output).

The card works if I insert a CD (listening to one now), but if I try to play a .wav file or anything else from the machine all I get is a few clicks. If I run sndconfig as root I can get the test sound but then the program hangs. If I run redhat-config-sound it reports that it cannot find a sound card!

I've read through various threads and can't see anything that has helped so far. Anybody got any more suggestions please?

Kind Regards
Ashley

When I run volume control ( I assume this aumix as i tried that at the command line and nothing happended) from gnome menu, nothing is shown as muted. If I increase the pcm volume level (whatever that is) the clicks increase in volume.
