RHEL 6.1 install on mac mini

Hi,

Today has not been much fun at all ...

Got a Intel core Duo 64-bit Mac Mini with 0.1GB allocated for MBR and 70GB + HDD && Trying to install x64_86 RHEL 6.1 downloaded from RH 2 days back

Got a windows keyboard and a partial OSX install on the MAC (had to do partial install to get the bloody OSX install disk out - a very long story)

Press ALT during OSX boot on PC keyboard to get choice of boot media (Windows or Mac Disk - neither actually, but I choose Windows ...)

I have the following options for both boot and DVD iso's

- They are on DVD (and my mac mini has a player)
- They are on my other mac which is setup as an NFS server
- They are on a MS-DOS formatted USB stick in the back of my Mac mini

The problems I have with each media type are as follows (This is at the point where Installation Method asks "What type of media contains the installation image" - Now I assume this is the iso, but when I choose -

- Local CD/DVD - I get "The Red Hat Enterprise Linux disc was not found in any of your CDROM drives. Please insert ~ and press OK to retry.
- NFS (Set up my NFSv3, setup share for Everyone, turned off firewall) but client would not find NFS server after 5 mins (tried this 4 times or more)
- USB - The closest I have got was by accident - Put USB stick in - Chose hard drive and keyed /Volumes in the dialogue box...

... This got me to creating the LVs which failed on first attempt due to a bug which RHEL advised me to report to RH and second time as the ISO couldn't be found on the USB stick (it's only 1GB so I can't fit the DVD on - the DVD was in the player but the installer didn't check).

I have also tried the media on a Sun x2100 which had a whole series of other problems (no CD drive, won't boot from usb .. another saga)

I will appreciate any help...

Thanks,

7h!nk

Hello there I too have the same problem ...I even tried installing with the parameter -> nomodetest acpi=off ,but even this doesn't help ...I have a del 1310 laptop with 1gb ram and 160gb WDC hdd ...

I had no such issues while installing RHEL 5.5 Server Tikanga...but I think this isn't something about SATA,ATA,AHCI drivers ...I haven't got much knowledge about ACPI or AHCI .....

can someone help us please ...thanks to you all

you might want to start a new thread
you are NOT installing onto a Apple "mini Mac "

a few things
Seeing as RHEL5 .5 is old ( RHEL 5.7 is the current in the 5 series )
is there a reason you MUST use a old version
if not , then why not use the current RHEL 6.1

Also red hat is NOT FREE !!!
you MUST buy a support contract license
-- you must buy RHEL - a 1 year support contract is $ 299 US

Have you read the red hat documentation ?
https://access.redhat.com/knowledge/docs/
have you searched the "knowledge base "
-- you will need the username and password you set up when you bought the required license --
https://access.redhat.com/knowledge/search
