Howto disable "Graphical Login" or "Standard Login?"

Red Hat Linux 9 starts in either "Graphical Login" or "Standard login". Bot are graphical.

How do I disable these graphical logins and login in text mode, and optionally start X using startx?

You will need to edit your /etc/inittab file. Look for the "default runlevel" section...

# Default runlevel. The runlevels used by RHS are:
#   0 - halt (Do NOT set initdefault to this)
#   1 - Single user mode
#   2 - Multiuser, without NFS (The same as 3, if you do not have networking)
#   3 - Full multiuser mode
#   4 - unused

#   6 - reboot (Do NOT set initdefault to this)

Change the 5 in the line "id:5:initdefault:" to 3.
