Question reaching to the notification area with gtk


hi,
I am student in university......
and my teachers gave a project for summer to me
I must write programs in linux with gtk anjuta and gcc
everything goes fine and program will be finished
but now they are asking me to make an icon to the notification area

with that icon
the system will check whole things which are given as input addresses

how can I make a notification area button likewise windows system tray

please help me,
it is urgent

notification areas are not so much part of gtk, but gnome. you need to use gnomeui specific widgets to interact with it.
