Nvida Assistance Needed

Hi all, Ive posted about this issue in linux form gaming but know one has any answer SO....i was wondering if the programmers could have any input on this issue:

I did a full reinstall of mandrake and now my NVIDIA drivers won't install. I exit X (init 3) and log in as root then type sh nvidapackage.run, it comes up with the gui, i accept terms, then it comes back with the error, it states the following:

"ERROR: Unable to link kernel module."

..so I went to the nvidia-installer log file and it states the following:

"nvidia-installer log file '/var/log/nvidia-installer.log'
creation time: Sat Aug 21 17:59:05 2004

option status:
license pre-accepted : false
update : false
force update : false

OpenGL install prefix : /usr
Installer install prefix: /usr
kernel source path : (not specified)

tmpdir : /root/tmp
ftp site : ftp://download.nvidia.com

Using: nvidia-installer ncurses user interface
-> License accepted.
-> A precompiled kernel interface for kernel 'Mandrake Linux 10.0 kernel
2.6.3-7mdk i586' has been found here:
./usr/src/nv/precompiled/nv-linux.o-1.0-6106.mdk10.0_2.6.3-7mdk.
executing: 'cd ./usr/src/nv; /usr/bin/ld -d -r -o nvidia.ko precompiled-nv-l
inux.o nv-kernel.o'...
/usr/bin/ld: final link failed: No space left on device
ERROR: Unable to link kernel module.
ERROR: Installation has failed. Please see the file
'/var/log/nvidia-installer.log' for details. You may find suggestions
on fixing installation problems in the README available on the Linux
driver download page at www.nvidia.com."

...where it says no space left on device, i left 3.4 gigs to /usr and 100 megs to / so that can't be the issue I think unless maybe / is 100 megs to small but i heard / doesn't need more than 100mb, like i said these drivers (6106 package) was working before but i reinstalled mandrake so i could create multiple partitions (hear is a good thing to do when reinstalling linux OS and saving your existing data) with /boot, /, /usr, /var, /swap/, /tmp, /home and so forth. If anyone knows whats happening here, please let me know what to do, thanks!!!

You may need to install the kernel sources. You are also in the wrong forum.

The reason I am coming to this forum is because I didn't get any help from the prior forum(s). Obviously you don't know much about programming or can't read. As I said, prior to making my partitions with the original install, the drivers installed fine. I don't need any kernel sources and I would appreciate if you don't come to this thread again.

Please, try to be more polite when asking for help. Peoples here are doing the best on their spare time to help others... you can't demand anything...

" Obviously you don't know much about programming or can't read."

I would say otherwise. You apparently are the one who can't read. If you read the rules:

www.linuxquestions.org/rules.php

You'd noticed that it's not allowed to double post... as you just did. Here is your original thread:

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...hreadid=220693

" I don't need any kernel sources and I would appreciate if you don't come to this thread again"

You really do, need the kernel sources in order to build nvidia drivers. If you have the kernel sources installed, then run the installer and specify the path to the kernel source, like this:

"sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-6106-pckg1.run --kernel-src-path=/usr/src/linux"

Well, I'm reporting this thread to the mod because: 1 - has absolutely nothing to do with programming, 2 - It's very unfriendly and aggressive and 3 - Double posting is against the rules... I'm also making sure to put you on my ignore list

Have a nice day!

Well since I can't read. I hope you get it fixed. You may not get anyone elses help either from the looks of it.

I'm not a programmer but I have installed those Nvidia drivers and wrote a how to on installing nvidia drivers, for Mandrake no less. You may want to search for it. It works.

I'm going away now, since you asked me too.

Good luck.

As Megaman X already stated:

Please do not post the same thread in more than one forum. Picking the most relevant forum and posting it once there makes it easier for other members to help you and keeps the discussion all in one place.

http://www.linuxquestions.org/rules.php

Duplicate to:
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...hreadid=220693

You may have better luck if you are kinder to those who try to help.
