Welcome to Linux Questions.

In fact you already have the answer in your text
Quote:
sudo apt-get install <selected package>
= = > sudo apt-get install j2sdk1.4

(I would go for "sun-java5-jdk" working with "all"
applications)

Regards

I would install sun-java6-jdk (I have not found a single applications that still insists on jdk5/jre5) but sun-java5-jdk should do. The latter introduced a lot of new features so it's not a good idea using anything older. You would be missing out on the varargs, autoboxing, generics, etc.
