how to develop a firmware

Hi,
I would like to know what should I do to be able to develop firmware for a system.
I googled it
http://www.google.com/search?client=...utf-8&oe=utf-8
but there was no useful link for my query.
I have been a hobbyist kernel programmer and as an interest I have written device drivers. Now I would like to jump to firmware development.

Hi -

There are many different directions you could go. Here's one great site you might find interesting:

http://sites.google.com/site/pinczakko/

Frankly, you might find a LOT of interesting stuff by Googling for the word "hack", e.g. "firmware hack" =>

http://www.popsci.com/diy/article/20...-hack-firmware

http://www.maximumpc.com/article/fea...s_new_software

http://www.networkworld.com/community/node/41672
<= These are just the first three hits I found...
... and any one of them might be a cool project that's both fun
... as well as a great way to get your hands dirty with firmware programming!

Happy hunting ... and have fun!

Hi,

A lovely board to start your development could be http://friendlyarm.net/products/mini6410.

It runs an embedded linux and is very easy to use
You can customize linux kernel, develop new drivers and test it on this board.

Hope it helps xD
