Want to develop my own distribution

Where would I begin if I want to develop my own distribution? I have the kernel 2.6 downloaded, so obviously I need that. Anyone have a decent site or book I can look at? I want to use KDE/Gnome, with a GUI installer. I know a bit of C/C++, and I'll need a good, (and cheap if possible) book to brush up.

However, first consider why you are doing this: is it a learning tool, a fully fledged distro that you will personally need to update every time a security patch or update comes out or is it because the existing ones have a gap? Maintaining a distro is a big job.

Partially a learning tool, but I would want it to eventually become something.

Edit: Also, the 'read more' link on the page you posted before doesn't work. I might need another resource.

You could also do a Google for "remaster Linux" and ignore the top few returned links - there are various how tos for various distros.

Apparently, a couple people had the same idea as you. Once you've found your footing, you might at least consider contributing to an already existing Linux distribution.
