messed up my ipod firmware..need new firmware..

Hello,

I use my ipod only in linux.. I do not own a mac or windows box. The other day I tried to transfer some music onto my girlfriends computer. I installed itunes and then tried to update my ipods firmware. It said it was updated, but my ipod was stuck on the apple logo. I know how to hard boot it and force it into disk mode... All I need is a copy of the firmware... I can't find it anywhere. As I said before I don't own a copy of windows or mac os *. How can I get a copy of the ipod firmware, so that I can dd it back onto sda1?

Thanks ahead of time

solution

If anyone here has an ipod it is really easy to extract the firmware.

Not exactly sure if it is legal to extract and send me a copy of the firmware...insert disclaimer here.

All one has to do is mount there ipod (assuming it is mounted as sda and you have a windows formated ipod so the firmware is in sda1) and execute this command

I would really appreciate it if someone could do this and then send me the firmware... it is a ~32 MB file.

Once again you would have my eternal gratitude!

Per the LQ Rules posts regarding warez, etc, are prohibited. If you need new firmware for your iPod, you need to contact Apple, not LQ.
