console mode command

Hi, I'm a newbie. Maybe this is a stupid question. In the console mode, when I want to edit / open a file .txt, I can use pico or cat command. But what if I want to open a file.doc or file.ppt from a console mode? note that my Linux have open office in it. thx in advance.

No, it's not possible AFAIK. Those need a special parser that isn't built into any of the common utilities. In theory someone could write a program to do it, but I've never come across one.

You can use `antiword' ( http://freshmeat.net/redir/antiword/...rd-0.35.tar.gz ) and a pipe to read MS Word files. Or at least, I do. It is not brilliant, but is reasonably capable.
