Smile Video Card Question (Warning...newbie)

Hey all,

I'm new to Linux and am using the Mandarke 10.0 distro. Here's my situation: I'm in the process of tracking down a hardware problem with my system. I have a video card that was configured by Mandrake during it's startup. In the course of troubleshooting, I removed this card and switched over to the motherboards on-board video (which was configured by Mandrake after I removed the first card). Once I ruled out the card as the source of the problem, I put it back in. Now when I launch Mandrake it doesn't seem to know what to do and boots into the command prompt. My guess is that it's seeing two video sources (the card and the onboard video) and doesn't know what to do. So, how do I go about reconfiguring the video so that it works?

Thanks in advance.

Run dmesg (or look in /var/log/messages) for an error description.

There's a file called /etc/X11/XF86Config-4. The backup or previous version is /etc/X11/XF86Config-4~. You might be able to rename the file and get back to where you were.

From the console you can launch the XFdrake utility and reconfigure your video via a GUI setup utility. Its pretty handy give it a try.
