Newbie Question - Changing Video mode

Hi all,

OK I admit I have done a very silly thing. I have set up my PC with Suse 10.0 at work (big fat internet pipe for installing) and am dead chuffed with the system.

However, I used a LCD monitor running at 1280x800, but now I have taken my PC home I only have a CRT monitor that can run 1024xx768.

I could bring my PC back into work and change it, but being Linux and not that "other" system I feel sure I should be able to boot it into text mode, change the resolution and the set the system back to graphic mode.

Only problem is I can not see how to do it - been searching the web for a couple of hours now and have not found anything that points me in the right direction.

Could anyone offer some advice as to how to do this?

thanks in advance

Welcome to LQ

indeed you can

Sometimes even if you plug another monitor X will recognise it
Anyway

have a look to the file called
/etc/X11/Xorg.conf (cannot remember if it is xorg.conf or Xorg.conf
if not there, look for nay *.conf in /etc/X11/

for more info type in a terminal
man xorg.conf

Also depending how things are configured you can change
resolution with <crtl><alt> <+ or ->
or
<alt> <+ or ->
