Question urpmi connection problem

having just rebuilt my computer with a new drive, I'm trying to get everything up & running again...

except, I can't configure my urpmi sources, as both urpmi.org & zarb.org aren't loading for me...

is anyone else having trouble reaching these sites, or is something wonky @ my end?

Follow these directions: http://www.zebulon.org.uk/urpmi_en.html

When you go to the easyurpmi site try selecting other sources.

Before you do this, once you get the cut and paste entries filled in, bring up an FTP client and make sure you can connect to these sources and see their contents via FTP.

If not URPMI will NOT work.

Note: If you installed shortwall or IPtables, you will not be able to initially connect to these sites until you adjust or disable either.

well, since I can't access the site, I assume I have either or both installed...where do I go to fix the problem?

rpm -qa | grep shorewall

rpm -qa | grep iptables

To see if either are installed.

Then to uninstall them...

rpm -e `rpm -qa | grep shorewall `
rpm -e `rpm -qa | grep iptables `

Then

service network restart

And try again.

You need to solve the FTP problem before you can use urpmi.

If you have a firewall, it may be blocking the ftp ports.

What happens when you use a client?

Do you get an initial connection message?

sorry, I was unclear...

I can NOT connect to the http://plf.zarb.org/~nanardon site @ all. It just times out. Therefore I can't discover which FTP sites I can & can't connect to.

or am I misunderstanding what you wanted to know?

Yeah, they are NOT responding for me either at the moment. The site may be down or overloaded...

However I saved my source definitions for 10.1...

So if you are using 10.1 just cut and paste this into a root console...

--- Snip below this line ---

urpmi.addmedia plf ftp://ftp.easynet.fr/plf/mandrake/10.1 with hdlist.cz

urpmi.addmedia --update updates ftp://mirrors.secsup.org/pub/linux/m...1/main_updates with media_info/hdlist.cz

urpmi.addmedia main ftp://ftp.rutgers.edu/pub/Mandrakeli...586/media/main with media_info/hdlist.cz

urpmi.addmedia contrib ftp://ftp.rutgers.edu/pub/Mandrakeli.../media/contrib with media_info/hdlist.cz

urpmi.addmedia jpackage ftp://mirror.cs.wisc.edu/pub/mirrors...media/jpackage with media_info/hdlist.cz

Note that the each line above starting with urpmi.addmedia is ONE LINE!

This web site may wrap things around and truncate what the url appears as too, you'll have to work around this...
