realplayer on Mandriva

Hi, can anyone tell me why I cannot install RealPlayer11GOLD.bin. I have already changed the permissions. Using

Code:

chmod a+x RealPlayer11GOLD.bin
./RealPlayer11GOLD.bin
siawacsh@localhost Downloads]$

Nothing happens just going to the next prompt.

I then found the older rpm version 10 and installed it but even though the icon is there under applications it just wont execute or run.

Does anyone have ideas???

The start command is : realplay

Please try that in the terminal.
You will then know, which dependencies, there might be missing.

A RealPlayer11GOLD.rpm is available. May do for Mandriva too ?

That was excellent, thank you! Just one other thing. I notice Mandriva is not using yum. So what is the command line package management utility?

That'll be urpmi.

"yum search" → use : urpmq --fuzzy <name>
"yum install" → urpmi <package>
"yum remove" → urpme <package>

Thanks. and I thought Mandriva was a derivative of RH...

Mandriva was originally based on Red Hat, and you will still find similarities in the way the core system functions. Although both are rpm based distro's, from very early days, Mandriva has developed its own package management utilities, for both cli and gui.
