Radeon 9600 AGP trouble

Hi,

Another radeon question, bet you are all sick of them by now, eh?

I installed the drivers from ati's website, compiled the kernal module and did fglxconfig thingy, but now If i type in startx after logging in nothing happens: it goes to a black screen of evilness.

I tracked down the relevant log, and below is an extract from it, detailing the error...

(II) fglrx(0): [drm] loaded kernel module for "fglrx" driver
(II) fglrx(0): [drm] created "fglrx" driver at busid "PCI:1:0:0"

(WW) fglrx(0): ********************************************* *
(II) fglrx(0): FBADPhys: 0xb0000000 FBMappedSize: 0x08000000

The most worrying lines of this sem to be the inability to initialise AGP
((EE) fglrx(0): [agp] Failed to set AGP mode!
(EE) fglrx(0): cannot init AGP)

It appears that the fglrx module loads up ok, but then fails later on

I've tried both the aggart external module and the kernels internal module, what shall I do now?

mandrake 9.2 + ATI Radeon cards = give up.

I couldn't get my ATI card to work with mandrake 9.2. It works fine in 9.1

make your computer work with divers supplyed on the mandrake disk during installion -summaru. I selected the one above in the driver list. Once that selected select a low resolution etc and test to see if it works. Once from here u can go into x (should) and install ati drivers. Much easier.

Twigathy,

I recenty installed Mdk 10 official download and also downloaded the driver for my ATI Radeon 9600 Pro. The version of this driver is "fglrx-4.3.0-3.7.6.i586.rpm".

I had no trouble installing it using the following command at the root prompt: "# rpm -i --force fglrx-4.3.0-3.7.6.i586.rpm". I assume you did the same, but maybe a different driver version (see below).

After the install I ran the following command at the root prompt: "# fglrxconfig". It seems that you also did this. The only things that I deviated from the defaults were the hfreq, vfreq and screen resolution.

I then restarted my machine and logged in. I ran the following command at the root prompt: "# fglrxinfo". The results show that the right driver was installed. I ran "tux racer" just to make sure the 3D portion of the driver were working.

From your output log, and from the Author information, it looks like you are trying to use the ATI MDK9.2 driver on MDK10. You may want to re-check your driver choice.

I know this was long, but hopefully it can help others who are trying to install the ATI drivers.

Bob

Thanks for the heads up, I dont have any CDs at the moment tho, so I will be a while before giving feedback...

Is there a way of slipstreaming the installation CDs onto 1 DVD so i dont need to swap disks/worry about losing 1 of the disks/whatever?

Thanks

Twigathy
