Microphone Not Working in 10.1 Community?

Hi all, I am having trouble getting my microphone to work in 10.1 Community, which I have just installed. Everything LOOKS ok (KMix and Qamix both report that all is well), but I can't record anything - sort of makes GnomeMeeting a little useless! Scanning some threads, it looks like this may be a problem with 10.1 itself? Has anyone solved this issue? It makes 10.1 a bit of a non starter if it doesn't work. Thanks.

Does your microphone work in the GnomeMeeting configuration wizard?
Do you have an appropriate ALSA driver for your microphone or the attached soundcard?
I hope someone can help you out with this. Good luck.
