Unhappy Mandrake 9.1 & 9.2 hang on install

Hi everyone,
I'm currently running SuSE 8.2 but wanted to return to using Mandrake, anhow I tried installing my old 9.1 powerpack (DVD) on my new computer and I didn't get far so I gave up. I just downloaded 9.2 to see if it would work before I shelled out again for another powerpack.

Here's what happens in both cases (I got a little further in 9.2 but maybe thats just because I let the computer sit there for much longer).

PC boots->Checks Boot Devices->Finds Mandrake CD/DVD->Bootsplash screen->I hit return->Mandrake starts pumping out all the usual text and then comes to something like:-

sis not 100% native mode will probe irqs later.

hda:Maxtor 6Y060p0
hdb:Artec blah blah
hdc:Sony DVD blah blah
hdd:hda lost interrupt (things get ugly from here on in)

the system then waits a bit and trys again and I get lost interrupt again, then it says something like
hda protected portion => 1

does some partition checks
complains a bit

finally if I leave it long enough I get to the stage where it loads the program into ramdisc. If I look at the kernel messages there's a long line of:
hdd interrupt lost
recover interrupt
etc.

looking at the other one (I forget the name, it was Alt+F3)

there are messages complaining it couldn't find the cdrom, then a message congratulating me as it found the cdrom, and then a message saying trying to load data into ram disc.

I gave up at this point, as my computer had taken around 30 mins to get to the stage where the little red bar was almost half way accross.

Can anyone help me? I'd really like to stop using SuSE!

My machine is as follows:
AsRock K7S8X
Athlon 2000+XP
768Mb Ram
NVidia GEForce 440 (64MB)
Maxtor 60GB 6Y060P0
USB keyboard
USB mouse
PS2 Keyboard (I need this one till usb services are activated )
Sony DVD ROM DDU1612
ARTEC WRR-52Z 1.25 20030606
Toshiba Floppy Drive

The hard drive is primary master
CDRW is secondary master
DVD is secondary slave

Any idea what's wrong anyone!?!?!?

We've just had a similar problem installing Mandrake 9.1. We got around it by hitting F1 at the bootsplash screen and typing expert noapic at the prompt. There was no way to turn APIC off in the BIOS that we could find but this did the trick - hope this helps.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll try it later today and let you know. By the way what is APIC? I've heard of ACPI but never APIC
