Mandrake 10.1 - no sound. Any ideas?

Just installed a fresh new Mandrake 10.1 official and I'm getting no sound. Any ideas?

I have a Sound Blaster Audigy. It worked fine when I was using Mandrake 9.1.
I set the driver to Audigy in the Mandrake Control Center in the Hardware section.

aumix does not exist in Mandrake 10.1 so I can't check if things are muted. kmix looks like everything is unmuted. Any ideas?

Here's the scoop:

- Instead of using aumix you can always use amixer with this little script (audunmute):
amixer set PCM 22 unmute
amixer set PC\ Speaker 22 unmute
amixer set Master 22 unmute
amixer set Master\ Mono 22 unmute
amixer set Headphone 22 unmute
amixer set Phone 22 unmute
amixer set Aux 22 unmute
amixer set Video 22 unmute
amixer set CD 22 unmute
amixer set Input\ Gain 22 unmute
amixer set Line 22 unmute
amixer set MIC 22 unmute
- If this doesn't work:
- Install the snd-config and see if it can find your precise sound card type
- Run the snd-debug script:
echo "My Sound Debug"
echo "*** Detected soundcards ***"
lspcidrake -v | fgrep AUDIO
echo "*** Available sound-slots ***"
grep sound-slot /etc/modules.conf
echo "*** Sound module list ***"
lsmod | fgrep snd
echo "*** Check sound configuration ***"
chkconfig --list sound
echo "*** Check alsa configuration ***"
chkconfig --list alsa
echo "*** Mixer volumes (check for mute) ***"
#aumix -q
amixer
echo "*** dsp users (only one allowed) ***"
fuser -v /dev/dsp
- If you're using the wrong sound driver:
- check for the available snd drivers in /usr/src/linux/drivers/sound
(urpmi kernel) if the kernel source doesn't exist
- check modules.conf for the audio driver in use change it if needed
- If all these don't help you might try installing a new OSS

If all this doesn't solve your problem then wait for more posts

Thanks for typing all that out! Unfortunately, after changing the settings in the Mandrake Control Center and choosing the Audigy drivers, it worked after a reboot! I assumed that things would work without having to reboot since it didn't mention anything about a reboot.

So now sound is playing fine, but I can't get KSCD to play CD's. It will play the CD but I can't hear anything. Wav's and MP3's and games are working fine in general. Any ideas on the audio CD's? I can't hear anything with audio CD"s.

I'm not sure, my KsCD is working so it wouldn't hurt to
run the unmute script and try again.
Or if not the whole script then focus on this line:
amixer set CD 22 unmute

HTH

Oh my gosh! I feel so stupid tonight. This whole thread should be deleted.

I got my CD to work. I have two CD-ROM drives and only one of them has the audio cable plugged in. I was putting my audio CD in the CD-ROM drive WITHOUT the audio cable. That is why I couldn't hear anything. Sound is all working fine now. Let this be a lesson that 99% of the problem is the user!
