Graphics mode not working for Mandrake 9.2

Hello Friends,

I am new to linux. I have sucessfully installed. Mandrake Linux 9.2.

This works only in console mode. In order to work in graphics (X windows) mode. I have recently configured system using XFdrake command in console mode.

After entering command startx, system goes in graphic mode, one splash screen od KDE3.1 comes. This starts scanning for number of devices avalible on system.

At the end of this scanning, system hangs up. Neither mouse nor keyboard works and I have to reboot again.

Can u help me? I use AMD Atholon 2000+XP, with Asus Mother board and nVidia Geforce 2 graphics card. System detects this automatically. I am really not able to understand why this happens.

Kindly help me.

Yogesh

re:

For your specific problem I can't completly answer, but:
I have as well an Asus mother board and I have to add a line in the /etc/X11/XF86Config-4:
In the card config (ie after nvidia) add Options "NvAGP" "1"
this will force xf to find if your grap Card is on the agp port.
It seems that it is not very well detected..
See as well your /var/log/xf.... it will give you a clue !!

Dear ykpaiha,

Thanks for taking interest in my problem.

I tried as per your advice but it did not work. One thing I forgot to mention. At the bottom taskbar there is message showing "krootwarning" when system hangs up.

I tried to read log file from var/log/xf.... Being new to linux I did not understand much but there is no error ( no ee field found).

Only there is one warning related to keyboard. Does this have any relation to above krootwarning?

If yes, tell me how to come out of this? How to configure keyboard in console mode?

regards
Yogesh
