ati mobility radeon 7500 in mandrake 10.1 only allows text mode no graphics at all

I am a newbie in linux, i don't really have enough experience to configure stuff in linux, i only know how to compile programs runs some program with the graphical interface or x windows however you may call it. i have installed mandrake in my desktop which has also as triple booting Red hat 8.0 and Windows Xp now, my problem is not in my desktop but in my laptop
i have a sony Vaio PCG-GRX560, the installation went fine is just that after the installation when it reboots it goes into text mode, i tried to configure my Graphical interface (before the computer tries to reboot) there was a list where the ATI mobility radeon 7500 did not appear
so i don't know what to do, and if someone helps me please tell me step by step i don't want to mess up, i know someone in the forum with username decapn has done something similar but i can't get his email
but anyways with Decapn reads please Decapn i will really appreciate your help
thank you

umm update....

What x server are you running?? Xfree86 or X.org??? in any case they both should have suppport for radeon 7500....so long as you have an updated ver. Try to compile a new ver if you cant update using a pagckage or whatever. You can still surf the web in the console. Just install lynx. It is a text based browser. This will allow you to grap the tarbell off the disributor's site. Once you finish compiling and installing your new x server run the text based config program. When it tells you to choose your graphics card look for somthing like ATI generic. This should get video card support working for your X server. In any case if you cant get the ati drivers to work you can always set the card to a generic svga card. This should allow you to start up X....doing this will, however, leave you with a fairly slow gui.
