Because if we keep stickying things like this, useful as they are, pretty soon the members will be complaining that first page has no new threads, only stickied ones. It will still be available via the Search function though.

I'm glad you asked The Linux Links page could be the place you need - probably the best place is under the "Software" heading.

Ok I added it there. To bad we dont have something like a hints file that everyone can see. Or even a random tip that is displayed when you change pages. It could have been posted there as well.

Sounds like a Website Suggestion to me - if I were you, I'd start a thread in WS&F and suggest it to Jeremy.

I tried adding it to my bookmarks also but there is still some issue/bug with making bookmarks.

I'll make a suggestion too.

A easyurpmi site alternative

Around mid-December 2004, the zarb.org site announced they weren't going to be supporting the urpmi page anymore. However, here is a list of alternative sites that you can use:

http://urpmi-addmedia.org
http://www.ianmacgregor.net/addmedia
http://www.linuxfordummies.org/addmedia/

A good program to run from the cli is 'urpmi.setup' available here: http://rpmfind.net/linux/RPM/mandrak...dk.noarch.html

It's a mdk-9.2 script, but it works just fine on my mdk-10.1 machine. It's best for updating sources that you already have, and getting rid of bad rpms, in case you have a local installation directory, or use local ftp install.

The reason that I mention urpmi.setup is because when you update using mcc, and there is a problem, the program just quits without giving you any information.

HTH,

Michael

I still can't use the bookmarks here.

It just wont let me post any links in it.

And the Linux link that I submitted to wasn't posted. Either because no moderator has looked there or just deleted it.

Can't contribute when things like this happen when trying to make sticky links.

EASYURPMI: BE CAREFUL--BE <I>VERY</I> CAREFUL!

Use this simple test.

Go to ANY EasyURPMI mirror.

Set up selection criteria beginning with Mandrake 9.2 (you'll notice it shows 10.1 when you go into the page) and i586. Then pick ANY update site for ANY category and hit the button.

You will get a result, sure, but it will be for 10.1 software! If you then do the usual urpmi commandline technique for updating everything, you'll end up with 10.1 software and a VERY munged up machine!
