New URL structure at LQ

[Log in to get rid of this advertisement]
Just a heads up that we now have a new URL structure at LQ. The URL's should be much easier to remember and no longer have the numeric parameters in them. All old URL's will redirect to the new ones in perpetuity, so none of your bookmarks or links to the site will break. The code was throughly tested, but if you notice any issues please let us know ASAP. Thanks again goes to david for his continued help on LQ.

It all loos good except one thing I just noticed: the "view first unread" link at the top of the thread points to www.linuxquestions.org - or at least, the link seems to be to the latest unread post, but that takes one back to the forum list. Very odd.

I think your coder needs to take a pay cut

Hi,

It's not working on my side. This is posted from a different box and a different browser (firefox seems to work).

My primary box runs opera (9.23).

Zero reply thread and such still work, but individual threads are not show, half shown (sometimes a header, sometimes part of the code itself) and sometimes the transfer doesn't want to finish.

Definitely a showstopper for me......

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/#post2913453 is the link for "view first unread" on this page. Looks as though it's picked up the post id but not the rest of the thread link.

We'll fix the "view first unread" link ASAP. I'm not able to reproduce the problem you're having druuna. Is anyone else having a similar problem? Does a shift refresh help?

Hi,

This is posted using opera, there is a little progress, but still no workable situation:

All new threads don't open at first. A stop and reload remedies that (new behavior, that did not work 30-40 minutes ago) .
But I need to do this for all new/updated threads.

Ok, the above was too positive. The stop/reload trick only works if the page isn't transferred (hangs). If part of the code/page is shown I'm not able to get the complete page.

This is the version of opera that I use: opera-9.23-20070809.1-static-qt.i386-en

The "view first unread" issue was fixed at about 5:30. Still looking into the Opera issue.

I suppose the [post=post_id]foo[/post] and [thread=thread_id]bar[/thread] tag combinations will continue to create the old-style links, which will subsequently be redirected to the new URLs?

I haven't seen anything wrong. Just FYI, it all seems to have {worked|been working} just great. That's one seamless change you'se made, atleast from where I'm at (Firefox 15-something). I never saw a thing

Keep up the good work, Jeremy & David and others;

EDIT - I should also mention that the site is loading fairly slow compared to usual. I think I subconsciously picked up on it earlier, but since seeing this thread, I wonder if this is the cause? Anyhow, if I weren't on crappy 28.8K dialup I prolly would not have notice.

Hi,

I don't know what has changed over the last couple hours, but all seems to work atm. I did not clean the cash or changed anything else to accomplish that.

In short: Problem solved, site is fully viewable with opera (9.23).

Thanks Jeremy! and keep up the good work.

I'm on a different PC now and I'm still seeing the problem. Clicking the link at the top of this thread takes me to the forum list rather than the latest post.

Matter of fact, it does that to me too. Sorry for not informing you sooner, but that's a link I have never clicked before!

I use it all the time - poor me, I have to manually scroll down the page now. Where do I go to get my refund?

(Slightly tongue-in-cheek) What '"view first unread" link at the top'?

I'm using Konqueror 3.5.3 & I see that link so rarely that I forget it exists, don't use it, & don't miss it. As long as the "&goto=newpost" in the URL's in the subscribed threads e-mails work, I'll be happy. More important to me, would be adding that code ("&goto=newpost") to the URL's for "The following threads have been updated:" in the subscribed fora e-mails. -- It's annoying that there is a difference in usefulness between the 2 types of e-mail notifications.
