PS: Ridiculing pomposity is an ancient and well respected tradition and there's ample pomposity around here.
Someone obviously doesn't get it. *nix isn't harder than windows, his brain just atrophied from using it (windows) too much, as is evidenced by his vacant posting. Ample pomposity around here? Sounds like the only one being pompous here is this wannabe! Someone needs to grow up and recognize reality - most of the people in here know more than he does!
Another name for the vote:
Vanquisher of Vacuity
Of course, Jeremy could do that by muzzling migrant, but we probably shouldn't go there...

The following new usertitles have been added. If you see your name next to a title, you were the first to suggest it in this thread. Congrats, please pick one item from the LQ store and send your selection along with your mailing address to me offline. Thanks for all the feedback! Note that I am still open to additional suggestions and if I choose your usertitle based on this thread, you're still eligible for an LQ item.
LQ Muse - cmnorton
LQ 5k Club - gsr_kashyap and Jesse W
LQ Sage - theNbomr
BTW, two addition suggestions came *very* close and I am still considering adding them.
Lets cut the crap shall we? I challenge you to a public debate in which you will defend the merits (if any) of bestowing user titles based on post count.
I propose the following terms:
1 You will make the OP for this debate. You will link to this particular post in your OP. If we negotiate further you will include links to those posts in your OP.
2 Before the debate begins a mutually agreeable time limit will be set. I suggest seven calendar days.
3 In the event of my victory you will cease awarding user titles based on post count permanently and entirely. All LQ members past, present and future will lose their user titles and only the total count will appear in their posts. The definition of user titles includes (but is not limited to) names such as: novice, member, expert, etc.
4 In the event of your victory you may delete my LQ user account and I will never again darken your doorstep or this forum. If this is not sufficient reward for you then name your price and if it is within my power to do so I will agree to it. You must state your price and I must agree to it before the debate begins. I define price as something other than money.
5 We will negotiate the means of determining who the winner is prior to the start of the debate. As an initial suggestion I suggest a poll.
So there is no misunderstanding I want to be perfectly clear. I have no personal animosity towards you. I do however consider you and some others in this forum emblematic of an elitist attitude that places undue weight on superficial and elitist values that are contrary to the greater good of society. Another words IMO you and LinuxQuestions.org set a bad example by promoting such values.

If you can honestly look at my posting history and in any way call me elitist then I'd like specific examples (not in this thread of course, but either publicly in a dedicated thread or privately). We're more open to feedback and suggestions at LQ than almost any other community (Linux or otherwise) I've ever seen. It's something we strive for and something we're proud of. If you really don't like LQ, which do you continue to come and post?
To directly address your offer, there's no need for a debate. We offer custom usertitles based on number of posts because that's the functionally the software we use offers. Is there a better way? Probably. I think you'll discover it's the de facto standard among forums. The titles are meant to be fun; a reward for the time and dedicate put into the site. You're certainly free to start your own forum and that are completely devoid of usertitles, but we'll be keeping them here at LQ.

I didn't think you would accept my offer of a debate but I wanted to give you the benefit of the doubt.
I already pointed out what I consider to be elitist and no further examples are necessary.
Not all forums have user titles so that point is erroneous.
I'm wondering why I wasted my time posting in this forum too.

<snip>
What say you, do you have the stomach for this?
First, I think jeremy has politely pointed out that your not going to get the debate.
Now, I do agree with your 'Lets cut the crap shall we?'.
Drop me a line when you start that new forum so I can blacklist the 'url'.
