When editing this post to delete it (it said "edit and delete" there, but now that I tried again it only says "edit", I think it's due to the time that has passed after I posted this new post & thread) I cannot do so.
Since it is the first and only post of the thread the whole thread would be deleted. But I don't see any option of deleting this post/thread.
Do I just miss it? Where is that option located?
Reason for deletion: The thread is too similar to one I already posted here http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...st-4175504524/ I just want to add the new / missing questions in that older thread instead. A new thread for that is unnecessary...

Reason: Delete thread/post?
Only an administrator or moderator can delete or move a post. Just click the "Report" on the back of you own post and make your request.
For small mistakes that can happen, like duplicate posts or posted in a wrong thread, erasing all the content and leaving just [wrong post] or [duplicate post] is another possibility. Caveat emptor: I'm just an end user myself thus I don't speak on behalf of the LQ staff.

The info you get when clicking on [Report] only says that you can report your own thread to be moved somewhere else...
And I cannot PM an admin or mod either cause by default only paying contributors (and me thinks mods and admins) are enabled to PM...
I guess that some features (like PM or reporting) are only available to people having posting more that <some number> threads. But I'm not a LQ official.
About the possibility of "edit and delete" I assume that this specific board is set not to allow "regular" users (as you and me) to delete their posts.
That would be wise in my opinion, as removing posts to which others have answered, for instance, would (ar at least could) make the thread not understandable.

To summarize:
* Members can't delete threads (for the reasons outlined by others above).
* Anyone in the Senior Members usergroup can PM.
* The "Report" functionality can be used any time you think a post/thread should be brought to the attention of the mod team.
As I have just discovered the FAQ is actually wrong about private messages, it states in fact that only Contributing Members can use the PM system, while any member being in the Senior Members group (>=150 posts) can use it.
If you are not in the Senior Members group (yet) you can still contact any moderator via email.
For small mistakes that can happen, like duplicate posts or posted in a wrong thread, erasing all the content and leaving just [wrong post] or [duplicate post] is another possibility.
I'd rather people don't erase post contents. If it's in the wrong thread just ask a moderator to move it to the right one or if it's a duplicate just report it as such.
