Msi K9n6gm
My old Gigabyte system running DreamLinux finally gave out. I do not really want went wrong but for the last few months it would just stop, usually when I was using a browser, but not always. I ran loads of diagnostics but to no avail. the components tested OK. I even tried several flavours of Linux. Knoppix, Mepis, Ubuntu, Elive.
I purchased from my local store a MSI K9N6GM Motherboard and a Sempron Processor with 1 GB Ram. Went home and put it together. My existing Linux DreamLinux booted up straight away. The only problem was the sound would not work as the driver was not recognised. Wifi networking was installed using NDISwrapper.
I then tried MEPIS as I had heard it had fixed the problem of the onboard sound on this board. It worked fine but I could not get wifi to work.
Tried Ubuntu 7.04 and everything works fine. NDISwrapper is used to install my wifi usb from SMC.
So to those who purchase this board Ubuntu 7.04 will work just fine.
I still want to get Elive and Dreamlinux working as they are my favorite releases. Unfortunately Elive are quite paranoid about being contacted. Mail to them gets returned and their forum registration rejects new applications as spam.
So I will work on DreamLinux first.
