wireless authentication

Hello

I have a ZyXEL ZyAir B1000 router and some (different) wlan cards. All the cards (PCI and PCMCIA) work fine, i got dhcp running, WEP encryption is ok i can happily surf the net...

Now I was just wondering around in the menus of my AP and found an option which gives me the chance to authenticate users on my WirelessLan. Authentication would run with a username and password, similar like on radius servers (with the difference, that this "authentication" runs on the AP itself)

Now my question is: how can I tell Linux (and windows, but this one is less important) to send some username and password to the AP when logging in? It wont be iwconfig, I didnt find any option I could identify as options mentioned above...

Thank in advance

raven

The internal database on the B-1000 uses EAP-MD5 for 802.1x authorization. Recent firmware for some models will support EAP-TLS and some other protocols by means of an external RADIUS server. Wireless clients need a supplicant in order to send the authorization (username/password or certificates) to the AP for the handshake. ZyXEL wireless cards come with a free Windows version of the Meetinghouse AEGIS client software (supplicant). I use the Linux version of the Meetinghouse supplicant ($40). XSupplicant is an open source version. I found it to be functional, but pretty crude which is why I popped for the MDC version. I'm using a FreeRADIUS server on RH to handle wireless authorization on my ZyWALL 10W.

Sorry if that was too much info. You asked for the time and I told you how to build a watch.
