This problem has happened before and I never got help for it and I'm stuck using my brothers computer untill it's resolved, I need help if anyone knows anything on this subject, I see it has happened to others too.
The "good news" (if you can call it that) is that Ubuntu 11.04 reached its "end of life" last year and is completely unsupported. So rather than waste your time troubleshooting on an obsolete release, why not burn a DVD or Live USB of the current Ubuntu release (12.10 or 12.04 LTS) and take it for a test drive (try WITHOUT installing) to see if it magically solves your wireless problem.
