Need help\direction getting orinoco card working

Hi everyone,
I'm having a hard time getting my orinoco wireless card working.
Reading these posts, setups can be conflicting. I've read hundred's of
post most seem very different.
I'll try and give you as much info as I can about my system and hopfully
someone can point me in the right direction.
I've got a dell 5100 and my wireless card is a orinoco classic gold card.
I thought I would go with orinoco classic cause this is what seemed the
most compatible and easiest to setup.
My kernel is gentoo-dev-2.6.9-r1.
Installed from 2004.3 stage 2
Reading some post's, some say use the kernel modules( enable your card
in the kernel ) if your using 2.6.
Some say not to use kernel modules and emerge pcmcia-cs (forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-53812.html)
I'd like to follow the uberlord's post but it's a year old. ( forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=122435 )
I don't know which kernel he's working with ( seems like 2.4.* ). Wireless
setup seems to be changing so much.
I don't want to destroy my gentoo system thats worked flawlessly for
over a year...
I've tried using a driver that was patched from one of the uberlords
post's. No go.
I've tried enabling in the kernel and recompiling.
On reboot I get >
* Mounting network filesystems...
*'modprobe yenta_socket' failed
*Trying alternative PCIC driver : i82365
*Starting Pcmcia
cardmgr[5855]: no pcmcia driver in /proc/devices
*Cardmgr failed to start. Make sure that you have PCMCIA
*Modules built or support compiled into the kernel
I've tried emerging pcmcia-cs
I compiled the orinoco driver I spoke of earlier and copied it to /lib/modules/2.6.9-r1/net/wireless
No go...
Any help or direction is greatly appreciated...
If you need more info I will post it

Thanks for any help or input
