Intel 3945 Wireless adaptor - setting Monitor mode?

Hey guys, I have my Intel 3945 Wireless adaptor working fine in Suse 10.1 but I'm trying to run Kismet, but for that I need to switch it to monitor mode...I can do that with modprobe eth1 mode=2 apparently but in Intels documentation is says I can only do this if CONFIG_IPW3945_MONITOR is enabled...where do I find that ? I have no idea

/Edit After a bit of digging around it seems this is a Kernel option, recompiling my Kernel didn't help as the option is not there, I downloaded the latest Kernel RC patch and applied it and its not in there either as far as I can see, there just doesn't seem to be a section for the 3945 Wireless card - despite the fact on Intels documentation it says its there...I can only find options for the 2100 etc wireless Intel cards...ah well 4 hours at this just to get Kismet going...Im going to do something else

I'm sorry, but I'm a complete noob with Linux and its commands. How exactly do you "uncoment CONFIG_IPW3945_MONITOR in the driver's Makefile?" I'm using BackTrack 1.0 of course.

I've tried using whoppix to install the sourceforge drivers as well, and I can't even do the tar command to extract the ieee80211-1.1.12.tgz. Can anyone tell me how to uncoment and tar? Thanks

to untar:
tar xzvf ieee80211-1.1.12.tgz

Install the microcode and the binary user space regulatory daemon, as explained in
the sourceforge ipw3945 driver site.

cd to the ipw3945-1.0.x created after the tar command, use your favorite editor (e.g. kwrite) to edit the file "Makefile" and erase the # before the CONFIG_IPW3945_MONITOR so it looks like:
CONFIG_IPW3945_MONITOR=y

complie and you're ready to test usling: ./load (with root privileges)
