help: wireless config

i installed suse 9.1 on my computer the other day, and am having problems setting up the network. i have a linksys wusb11. i used ndiswrapper for the driver. i've been following the guide NdiswrapperHowToforSuSE9+. but when i'm supposed to dhcpcd wlan0, i'm told that wlan0 is not configured.

when i iwconfig:

lo no wireless extensions

wlan0 IEEE 802.11-DS ESSID:"linksys" Nickname:"okuwlan"
Mode:Managed Channel:6 Acccess Point: 02:00:1F:ED:85:EA
Bit Rate:11Mb/s Tx-Power=15dBm
Retry limi:8 RTS thr=1536 B
Encryption keyff
Power Managementff
Link Quality:0/0 Signal level:5/100 Noise leve:0/0
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0

sit0 no wireless extensions

dhcpcd wlan0:

wlan0
ERROR: No configuration found for wlan0

I've looked through other threads, and nothing's worked for me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know how much I can help you, as I am using Suse rather than slackware.

make sure your kernel source is installed. it should be in usr/src, i believe. or else it's etc/src.

if it's not there install it.

then, assuming your wireless card isn't recognized, install ndiswrapper. i found the rpm on my install disk.

once ndiswrapper is installed type ndiswrapper -i followed by the location of the driver for your card. you may need to do this as root.

type ndiswrapper -l, and your driver should be displayed

type modprobe ndiswrapper

type lsmod, and check that list to make sure ndiswrapper in included

at this point i opened yast in suse and went to network card configuration. i don't know if slackware has the same or something similar.

i removed everything shown as being available, then added a new one.

i switched it to be wireless, then went into wirless options where i set the channel

i then clicked the checkbox for it to be usb

you need to enter the essid, and encryption key(if required)

then change the configuration name to wlan0

i finalized all this and everything worked

if it still doesn't work. try ifconfig wlan0 down, ifconfig wlan0 up, then dhcpcd wlan0

as i said before, i did this under suse, so i don't know if you'll be able to use any of this.
