I just installed my linux and am trying to get Yahoo messenger on it. I installed it but I don't know how to open rpm files. What do I need to open it? When I try doulbe clicking it to open it it says "Nautilus has no installed viewer capable of displaying yahoo messenger" Help me please
you can either type rpm -ivh ymes..... <------ the filename or you can right click on the rpm and click open if you are using redhat 8. I am not sure about the second method if you are using a different version or distro.
I tried doing the rpm -ivh command but then it said libcrypto.so.0 is needed by ymessenger. What am I supposed to do about that? (sorry if these are dumb questions)
i think the file is inside one of the installation CDs of Redhat. I don't know how to install it, but if I remember right, last time I used the gui and opened the rpm, it had dependencies, it automatically prompted for the correct disc number and installed that file for me. Use the second method instead.
There is no reson to use the ymessenger it is not stable down load Gaim from freshmeat and then go to tools then plugins and install the libyahoo and then go to account and put in your yahoo messenger account info and there you go
I am about to put SimplyMEPIS 6.5 into my laptop, but I want to be sure I can communicate with my wife in Thailand with Yahoo messenger.
Can I follow your directions, download Gaim, install libyahoo, fill in my account info and be good to go?
I have a resident hacker and can not wait to escape from Windows XP,
but this is my first experience with Linux.
Any info you have to offer will be much appreciated.
Thanks.
