yahoo messenger

hello I am totaly new to linux first time ever using it or let alone seeing it.I am having trouble finding a yahoo! messenger for my SuSE 9.0 i586.I tried using kopete 0.7.3 and it doesnt connect.I downloaded the simple instant messenger and i dont know how to do the proxy or server.Can someone help?

Kopete works fine for my Yahoo account. You have to set it up though. Open Kopete:

Settings >> Configure Kopete >> Accounts >> New

It will ask for your root PW then you can setup your yahoo account ID and PW.

That should be all you need. It does not connect automatically. Click:

File >> Connection >> Connect All

Gaim is probably the best IM client on Linux, and it is compatable with Yahoo. I'm 99% positive it shipped with SUSE 9.0 (I did buy it, but I use CentOS now). However, 9.0 is outdated. I believe it has less than a year of support left. Why don't you upgrade to a newer release or another distribution like Fedora? You would get a new version of Gaim. Or you could try compiling the newest Gaim.
