frustrated, done everything

hey guys,
i'm new here and found this thread by searching on google:

"Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0" blah blah blah...

i upgraded to the new nvidia drivers and installed fine. did all the XF86Config mods (including all above:

driver "nvidia"
and
load "glx"
even
Option "IgnoreEDID" "1" )

and i still get this stinking error message when i try to test glx with "glxgears" and try to use glx otherwise.

it worked fine before i upgraded, but it wasn't using acceleration (i think) because tux racer was getting about 1/2 f/s.

oh yeah, i have an nvidia geforce 2 mx and i'm running redhat 7.3
