Did you look at the log for the errors, as the system said?? Run it through grep for any line with "EE". Not sure how you think you 'successfully installed' the nVidia driver, when you say that something got 'messed up' when you were trying to do it. You can't both succeed and fail at the same time. And is this the same thing you posted before??
https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...27-4175725289/

...where you're missing dependencies and other items needed to actually perform the installation? If you're missing things, why/how do you expect it to actually work? You also don't tell us what you did to install this driver (unless it's the same thing in your other thread that you didn't follow up on), but *AGAIN*, as stated in your previous threads....Oracle Linux is NOT meant for desktop workstations/consumer hardware.

follow-up:

I had a similar problem with Ubuntu which I solved by reinstalling X server. How do I reinstall X server in a redhat derivative (redhat, centos, fedora, OL9?)

I can boot off the previous kernel just fine. Another idea is to revert to the previous kernel, delete the latest-greatest and then update the previous version to latest?

Again, you need to actually look at those logs and *RESOLVE THE ERRORS*. Chances are your failed attempt at loading the nVidia driver on a system that wasn't meant (most of the time) to even HAVE a screen attached is the problem. Most likely it's trying to load the nVidia module, can't find it, and aborts. You don't need to reinstall, you need to modify your X configuration to use the old module, whatever that was. Did you look at the logs??

As you were asked (and didn't answer), how did you install this?? The nVidia installer has a log, as does your X server (noted on the screenshot you posted). Did you look in either of them?? Did you try looking at the Oracle Linux documentation, or checking their forums?
https://docs.oracle.com/cd/E36784_01...852/gmcdt.html
https://forums.oracle.com/ords/apexd...-on-ol9-2-0420

AGAIN: You are making your own life difficult by trying to use a server-class distro on consumer hardware.

Right, because your old kernel has the nVidia driver compiled/working (or at least has SOME video driver). Your installation failed, as you said in your other thread...not sure why you're surprised a failed installation doesn't work.

Right now I am in the single user mode with the x disabled.

I am thinking about just changing the default kernel to the previous one, because I can boot just fine off 5.14 and startx.

Is there some reason you won't answer questions??? You were asked:
  • How you installed the nVidia drivers
  • What to look for in the X logs (with a specific grep command)
  • Where to look for the nVidia installer log
  • Why you're using a server distro for consumer hardware
But you don't answer any of those. AGAIN, the kernel module is correctly installed for the old kernel, so obviously it works. Your other duplicate thread about nVidia drivers has you looking at headers from Red Hat (which is *NOT* Oracle), and for RHEL version 8, not 9.2. Again, did you TRY to look at the Oracle website??
https://yum.oracle.com/repo/OracleLi..._64/index.html

...for the Oracle Linux packages?? Apparently, the latest *RELEASED* kernel is 5.14; the only place the 5.15 kernel is, is in the preview (as in, *NOT READY FOR RELEASE*) section:
https://yum.oracle.com/repo/OracleLi..._64/index.html

Is there some reason you're not only running a server distro for desktop use, and then compounding your problems by running beta/test-preview packages?? And why are you then surprised you're having problems by doing both of those things? The UEK headers are on the Oracle website; load them and re-compile/install the nVidia driver (however you did it, you won't answer).

Basically I have given up and reverted to the nouveau driver. With which everything works as intended. I don't even know what possessed me to install Nvidia. Everything worked before it.
What PITA. Many others are having the same issues.

It's easier to install the entire operating system versus upgrading the video driver.

I ended up reinstalling xorg. Wiped out all the gnome settings I made. I did tried to upgrade gnome to xfce. It did not work but restored all the gnome extensions I lost.

And you *STILL* haven't answered any of the questions. Yet you did what was suggested, and rolled back the video driver. AGAIN, you installed the wrong kernel headers because you (for some reason) decided to install a development kernel without the support libraries, and were somehow surprised that the kernel module build failed.

Oracle 9.2 is currently on 5.14 kernel...very clear on their website. If you were using 5.15, that was a problem you caused yourself. And **AGAIN**, if you were using a consumer-grade distro, you could have easily installed (and kept up to date) the nVidia drivers through the online repositories. You are doing nothing but making your life difficult.

If you're not going to answer questions to try to solve your problem, what's the point in posting???
