Took less than 30 seconds using duckduckgo.com.

OH WOW!
If I were to compare MC with Window$ Explorer I guess I would simply state Window$ Explorer is a dinosaur best left buried.
MC -- Midnight Commander -- makes all those routinely used move,copy,show-me-the-inside of, switch to HEX display - and the list goes on and on all so very simply available. Things like split screen and show me dir-tree on one side and contents of highlighted on the other.
try:
mc
F1
enter -- and read. The help is built-in.
(optionally, instead of press enter - press tab and then press enter and educate yourself.)

Things like F9 <enter> F <enter> *.exe <enter> -- hides the non .exe files from the screen.
Things like F9 <enter> S <enter> m <enter> -- re-lists the list in date order.
Both above can be run and the screen will show only the .exe in date order.
AND each (separate or combined) remain active as you purview the disk contents.
I am not trying to be rude. Window$ is always a few commands short by the time you do get there so you will need still more Window$ things to finish your desired whatever.

Go to the windows directory.
use Window$ Explorer to locate all .dll files.
use MC, go to window$ directory. I am assuming you do dual boot and Window$ is mounted in Linux too.
type F9 <enter> F <enter> *.dll <enter> and view them.
While you are there, press + <enter> * <enter> (- <enter> * <enter> to de-select)
.. at the bottom read the total size of the .dlls in that dir and the total number of them.
Move to other directories and see all .dll files (if any) present. Arrow keys work to navigate as well as Mouse or Pad.
F for filter the names. S for sort and m for last modified. In case you were wondering.

One last Jab at Window$. Use IE or something and open a .html. Then switch programs, and try to get a copy of that file at that point for another use.
Result: file in use aka not smart enough to comply.
In Linux I can open a given .html, review it, open vi, edit the same .html, make correction and save it and reload in Firefox and have the updated version on the screen. Helps debugging.
You are dumping large amounts of data into a single file. Use mc to track progress.
With mc you can go to that file and highlight it (or not) and press ^R and watch the file size increment. Each ^R updates 1 time. Curious of contents? Shift-F3 for raw looks, F3 for formatted. I have had several programs read/write same file in circular sequence without closing the file to achieve desired results. Usually a math "balance" problem.

I think there's just one feature that the poster wants which they can't find so they're convinced that nothing works as well as Windows Explorer.

Source Film Maker should be supported on linux because it is a huge app on steam to make and edit TF2 or other valve animations.

There are a few options for the creation of slideshows
in Dolphin you can do a batch rename using a pattern like ###00 which yields
00100
00200
00300
leaving plenty of room for permanent rearrangement

Digikam go to view>slideshow>advanced slideshow
there are also plenty of online options also

I cracked open Portal 2 a while back and found it loaded with .bik's. Converted them all to MP4s using Handbrake.

Fair enough, it is helpful if you type what you mean out in full...

A friend uses Ardour and finds it even drives his motorised faders for him (as well as doinf things like LADSPA plugins). What do you find lacking? It may well not be in ardour but I'll ask him...
