I think perhaps you also missed my mention of hardware support for Linux. HP, Intel, AMD and others all contribute but others do not. People have mentioned drivers and "helper applications" that they would like to see under Linux also.

Oddly enough there have also been posts suggests open source alternatives to programs which people ask for, which has helped those posting.

But, no, we should close this thread and tell people to just buy M$ and stop whining...

I kinda like the Idea that it is free. I also help others who are new to Linux, and yes I even install Linux on other people's computers., I'm not a troll, I simply disagree with your point of view, Now if you actually have a problem with Linux, I will try to help you, but because you and I are on oppostie sides of the fence as to free OS's and free software is no reason for you to act so childish.

I had this Dell printer before I had Linux OS, it worked fine with MS, but MS didn't like my old computer, so I bought a computer with no OS, so I loaded Ubuntu 14.04 OS.
The strange part is that Linux has drivers for HP, that printer works fine, but the Dell MFP will not, no matter how hard I try, and like I said, Dell has no plans to support their printers in Linux OS.

To clarify it is HP who have drivers for Linux and they're good at it. My apologies, I know it's a bit rude to correct.

That is correct, my HP Laserjet 1018 works fine, the Dell C1765 MFP does not, no drivers will work, and I have the original disc that came with the Dell printer. Ubuntu OS will not accept that Dell software, because when you ask Dell they will tell you the software is good for Windows 7, XP, and all MS OS and not Linux OS.

As I mentioned, I think that's because Dell have negotiated the best price for Windows. It seems to be their policy to feign interest in Linux now and again when it comes to contract renegotiation time. HP, on the other hand, (and Brother and Xerox, et al) are printer manufactures so are out there to sell boxes to anyone they can reach.

I am glad you did not take offence -- absolutely none was meant, nor any criticism. I just thought it worth emphasizing that it is HP who provided the drivers in this case as it's a good thing for them to do.

I would like Brother printters to be as easy as HP printers to be installedin linux
