Updating java on linux 8.0

Hi,

I was trying to update the version of java on my machine running linux 8.0.
I downloaded the rpm and it installed properly into /usr/java/j2sdk<version> then I ran

# java -version ..
its still showing me the old version .. I was wondering how to link it to the new version ..

can someone help me with this ..

Thanks,
sdsouza

First off, do you mean Redhat 8? Mandrake 8? SUSE 8?
Second, did you upgrade your java package, or just install a fresh copy?
