Trying to upgrade Firefox on Linux Mint KDE

Hi

As the topic suggests, i'm unable to upgrade firefox. i downloaded the latest tar.gz from the firefox website. 2.0.0.11 i think it was and also the 3.0 beta 2.

when i extract it to the /etc/firefox folder where the old firefox was, and run firefox again, it still runs the old version - 2.0.0.6

what am i doing wrong? its doing my head in because i'm having some issues with the current version of firefox that im using.

In the past when I use an early version of suse

I down load the new version of firefox in my home dir where I also have the old version delete the old version
un tar the new one and link it to my desktop
If I like to keep my bookmarks I do not delete the hidden files
It also the benefit that the original supplied with the distro was still
there kde version

Maybe it works for you to
