The magical linux installation process!!!!! help ;)

(The messegeboard wont let me post links cus im a nooob, if you search google for wcpuid its the first page "H'odas" i think.)

Hi, im trying to install xcpuid fromt he above link and just as the lst time i tried using linux im having issues with makefiles, compiling etc.

I have tried a few commands and either get permission denied (even in root) and no target etc.

I also tried cinelerra, unzipped it went to folder typed make, it compiled or somethign for an hour or two and stopped and now im no closer to using it!

And last but not least, what the hell is up with the cd-rom, it either wont display the conents of a new cd-rom and just show what was in the last one or it just wont show/mount at all. I have tried supermount to no avail.
I forgot these are the reasons i stopped using mandrake 9,1 last time, each day i ended up with more thing failing at boot process.

Currently running mandrake 10.0 , ahem limping.

permission denied as root usually means you're trying to run a file that isn't executable. If you're sure the file is supposed to be executed (like it ends in .bin or .run) then type:
Code:
chmod +x filename.bin
then run it with
Code:
./filename.bin

[jim@localhost jim]$ cd '/home/jim/stoof/xcpu30g+/drv'
[jim@localhost drv]$ make
make: *** No rule to make target `nrkdrv32.c', needed by `nrkdrv32.o'. Stop.
[jim@localhost drv]$ make install
make: execvp: ./.adddev.sh: Permission denied
make: *** [install] Error 127
[jim@localhost drv]$

same thing under root.

this is a simple issue. I had it too until I realised that the makefile was referencing other files in the directory. all you need to do is open the console in the drv dir, and type:
chmod +x .adddev.sh
and then
chmod +x .deldev.sh

and you should be all set
happy 'nixing

Don't waste you time trying to compile cinelerra - that build is highly unstable to start with.If you just want to see if things work check with something else to make sure things are going well there and have fun with cinelerra later.
