Question shutdown error

I'm running a server on red hat 6.2
Sometimes when I try to shutdown the computer I get this error
Code:
Unable to load interpreter /lib/ld-linux.so.2

The computer just halts at this error and cannot finish the shutdown routine. It doesn't happen every time I try to shutdown. Any help with this will be much appreciated. Thanks.

interesting... I'm assuming /lib/ld-linux.so.2 exists correct?

is /lib on a different partition than /, or /sbin?

just some shots in the dark...

A google search for ld-linux.so.2 gives about 100 results pointing to the glibc package. Have you recently updated your glibc?

More shots in the dark...

/lib is not on a seperate partition than / or /sbin

/lib/ld-linux.so.2 is actually a link to /lib/ld-2.1.3.so and they both exist

I haven't updated glibc but another administrator may have
if this is true what needs to be done?

would work sometimes... but not othertimes... do you have any more information on the circumstances when it does work compared to when it fails... such as shutting down from a different runlevel, or maybe a different set of processes are operating at shutdown... etc? its not possible that the library could be locked up by something at shutdown would it?
