sendmail taking a long time to deliver.

Sendmail is functioning properly. But when I check e-mail, each address is taking about 30 seconds to retreive e-mail. Anyone know why or how to speed this up?

Thanks!!

sounds like a DNS problem. make sure your server is resolving properly. also, add an entry to your hosts file, with servername and ip address...

I, unfortunately don't host my DNS on my box, but the records from my provider seem to be pointing right though. I updated the hosts file to reflect the IP.

A quick fix to this if your running a small number of users is to put their machine names and IP's in the servers host file.

One of the security features of sendmail is to resolve the IP to hostname. With private IP's if you don't have a DNS server setup to resolve those names Sendmail will wait until it times out.

Hope this helps.
