Unhappy programs taking a long time to load...

I'm running redhat 8, in a older box running a amd k6-2 500 mhz processor, with 128 megs of sdram. I thought it was a memory problem, but after reading some post, I'm not sure what it is other that the processor. for example I go to load openoffice and there is a huge delay (i.e. I can get up use the bathroom, and it might be loaded?!)

well open office is BIG, and your processor is knocking on a bit. if you are using KDE or Gnome, then there will already be a big strain on a cpu of that power, so it will take a long time. there might be something in it, but the example you've given is always slow compared to other programs...

I am running a K6-2 @ 500 MHz with 384 Mb of RAM. I have not had any problems with speed. (perhaps only slightly slower than when I had Windows, but not enough to care).

adding memory is cheap and easy. I'd start with that.
