RPM automatic dependencies

When using RPM from the CLI how does one automatically install an application and also have RPM automatically download the needed dependencies?

The function you are looking for is not part of rpm. It is part of various applications that use rpm. For example on Fedora and SuSE you use 'yum' and on Mandriva you use 'urpm'. To install an application, resolving all dependencies, you would do something like:

yum install someApplication

or

urpmi someApplication
