Removing and then reinstalling through synaptic / apt-get?

I'm sorry to those who have read my posts dealing with the same question again, but...

...is it OK if I simply do "sudo apt-get install -f" and remove:

1. libc6-i686
2. libglib2.0-data
3. locales

...and then try to reinstall them through the Ubuntu Installation disc?

I wouldn't advise it, I would do a forced package installation instead. This should overwrite the files from the existing package in place, that way there is no point at which a shared libc couldn't be loaded.

In theory libc would already be loaded once apt is started so it should be safe, but you might consider doing a manual forced package install instead. With an RPM based system do rpm -ifv whatever.rpm. If your feeling brave you could always do 'apt-get reinstall packagename'

Thanks for you input.

Unfortunately, for me, at least apt-get reinstall doesn't seem to work. It does not recognize reinstall as a valid command-line extension.
