Raid0 doesn't work on boot?

So um, i've used RAID in the past, with the whole mkraid thing. But i'm now using mdadm, and I can't get it to work.

I'm trying to set /dev/sdb1 and /dev/sdc1 in RAID0. I did mdadm --create, it created /dev/md0. The drives were Linux raid autodetect before I did any of this though. I did mke2fs /dev/md0 and I was able to mount and read-write to it. I than edited my /etc/fstab and reboot. And I get a Unable to read superblock error on boot for /dev/md0. cat /proc/mdstat reports no RAID devices. I can see my two drives, but trying to mount /dev/md0 gives that bad superblock problem. mdadm -detail -scan shows nothing. How can I make this thing mount at boot?

I've search everywhere, but nothing has helped... This seems fairly simple though, so I may have missed something.

I'm using Debian 3.1 Stable, Sarge.

Have you created a file /etc/mdadm.conf ?

It is used at the startup to detect the raid.
I assume you boot from an IDE HD

BTW, when I upgraded from mandrake 10.1 to 10.2,
a newer version of mdadm was installed and my mdadm.conf
was at last fully recognised and my raid 0 detected and
mounted at boot up (it was not in 10.1)
So think about getting the most recent mdadm

mdadm.conf will do all the hard work
you still need an entry in the fstab for mounting the array

I cannot tell exactly about the superblock, I had this
problem that I solved by formating and or remounting, stopping the array
(I cannot remember)
I do not use raid autodetect

I am planning to write a short howto when I have time (no promise)
