pop up window comes inspite of it being blocked in firefox preferences

While browsing following page
http://www.indianrail.gov.in/
I get a random window popped up on my box
the link which pops up is of following page
http://n.admagnet.net/panda/www/deli...FvTjtaSy9Pg%3D

In case any one wants to see what I am trying to tell just open that
page www.indianrail.gov.in and try to click on some menu button in navigation bar.
You will see an advertisement "Play online games"

Now I would like to tell
Firefox-->Edit-->Preferences-->Content-->Block Pop up windows
there is a tick on that box.
Also as I open that page
http://www.indianrail.gov.in/
I do see a message in firefox which says this page tried to open pop
up windows which have been blocked.
And inspite of this message I get to see that advertisement of
"playing online games"
It has been so frustrating and annoying to each time close that pop up.
My question is inspite of the option of blocking pop up windows
enabled why do I get to see this advertisement.
Can I some how stop this behavior.
I use Lucid 64 bit and Firefox 3.6.10

I use a few add-ons with Firefox.

*Noscript
*Redirect Remover
*Adblock Plus
*Ghostery
*BetterPrivacy

This helps me a lot. I highly recommend trying these.

Edit: By the way I went to that website and there was no problem with pop-ups, etc.

Hmmm. Interesting. I tried your site and yes indeed! There were the popups you mentioned. Horrible things. I was very angry. I went to the Edit menu and opened up Preferences. Clicking on the Content tab I saw the checkbox Block Popup Windows and it was checked but.........
next to it was a small button marked Exceptions... I clicked on it and sure enough, www.indianrail.gov.in was listed as an exception. I have no idea how that got there but I fear the worst. In any event I removed the exception and tried your site again and joy of all joys no more popups. Yet another triumph of Good over Evil.
ciao,
jdk

You are very welcome. Words of advice, since they are new to you you may find annoyances here and there with noscript blocking things. But you can set it so it allows, for example, hulu.com but nothing else coming from that website.

You are going to love Ghostery. It is amazing how many trackers there are out there.

I don't understand your message. I solved the problem. Nothing to do with cookies but rather removing the exception to Popup blocking which mysteriously appeared on my list. I did look through the list of cookies (rather large) and found none related to the rogue site.
ciao,
jdk

I thought that by removing cookies and cache you might see it again if that is not the case then you have surely solved it.But as suggested to me above addons they are working great. Thanks for the reply.

I use Taco3.0 with Abine which seems to do something similar to Ghostery. And yes, there really are loads of trackers out there. This site (LQ) uses Google Analytics, to take one example.

I am not a web expert so if you can share what are these trackers and how do they help these websites?

Try googling thing like:
Revenue Science
BlueKai
Quantcast
Doubleclick
Quigo Adsonar
Chartbeat
etc. etc. and you'll find loads of info about the trackers.
You can find more info at this site.
ciao,
jdk

Yes and scary too. That's why I use Ask rather than Google. I only use "google" as a verb.

Why is that so.How can your browsing behavior other than getting you on hit list of marketing and advertising affect you?
