pl2303 attached to ttyUSB0 but driver attached to device is "serial"
Helow.
From googling I found out how to use pl2303. However, from 'dmesg' I get 'PL2303 converter now attached to ttyUSB0', but /proc/bus/usb/devices shows that the driver assigned to the device is serial. So I can't use the device properly.
How come the assigned driver is not pl2303? I was able to get pl2303 attached to the device in suse 9.3 but I'm having the said problem with Red Hat 9. What could be wrong?
I use a Bafo USB-to-serial converter using pl2303.ko driver on 2.6 kernels in Debian and Ubuntu. I use minicom/c-kermit for terminal applications. No problems, whatsover. Can you tell us what problem you are facing?
Red Hat 9.0 is very, very, very old. After that Fedora Core 1, 2, 3, 4 and now 5 has been released. So, please upgrade.
I need to make it work in Red Hat 9, SuSE 9.3 and SuSE 10. I successfully assigned pl2303 to the device in the SuSE distributions but encountered a problem in Red Hat 9.
Here is an excerpt from 'cat /proc/bus/usb/devices' after insmoding usbserial and pl2303:
It works now! I just used the pl2303 driver from the Prolific site. It seems the driver needed to be updated. (Now why didn't I think of that?!) Anyway thanks!
