no sound for cd player but has sound with everything else

Have sound other than when im playing music from my cdrom, but it works when im playing a dvd from them.

how do i get it to work with music cd's?

probably this is the most stupid reply, but the first thing to be done.

Check your volume of the CD-Player software. Is it set to zero?

If not, go to the suse menu and click on volume control in the multimedia section. Check whether the part of CD (& pcm2 if available) is set to zero.

Also, check whether audio CD is working fine elsewhere...

In what player are you listening CD music?

If its xmms try this:

Open xmms Preference (CTRL+P);
go to "Audio I/O Plugins" and double click "CD Audio Player x.xx.x";
for "Play Mode" just select "Digital audio extraction".

Everything should work now
