mplayer - in normal user mode problem

hi.
I've succsessfully installed mplayer, and it works perfectly as root.

starting it in normal user mode, i get the following error msg on the terminal:

>Linux RTC init error in ioctl (rtc_irqp_set 1024): Permission denied
>Try adding "echo 1024 > /proc/sys/dev/rtc/max-user-freq" to your system startup scripts.
>Using usleep() timing

I belive that's because the mplayer application doesn't have the permisiion to set the resolution. how can i fix that? is it better to run mplayer in root mode in this case?

thanks.
